How To Be Successful in Life – Remove your Low Self Esteem
EIGHT EASY WAYS TO TELL IF YOU’RE SUFFERING FROM LOW SELF ESTEEM
Low self-esteem is a problem that can easily be solved. The hardest part is figuring out if you suffer from it in the first place or if you’re just going through a difficult time in your life. There are a few telltale signs, which you should look out for.
There is nothing wrong with feeling guilty, especially if your actions have had negative consequences on others. However, people with low self-esteem often dwell on their feelings of guilt without being able to move on. Quite often, they feel guilty about things that were ultimately out of their control.
A lack of self-esteem leads you to fear just about everything. You fear new experiences because you are not sure how to cope. You fear new people because you are sure that they won’t like you. You fear being given responsibility because you ‘know’ that you’ll be a disappointment.
SHAME AT ONESELF
Everyone has done things in their lives, or gone through things, that they are ashamed of. A confident person knows that they are just one of many who have had those same experiences. Those with low self-esteem feel disgusted by themselves because they somehow feel that their self worth has been diminished on account of what they’ve gone through and that no one will understand.
AN OBSESSION WITH PERFECTION
Nobody is perfect. The most you can do is try to be the best person that you can be. This lesson isn’t as easy for someone with low self-esteem to follow. They are very critical of their faults and go to great lengths to achieve what they think of as perfection.
Perhaps you’ve had experiences, which cause you to be distrustful if others. Most people have. Those with low self-esteem, though, are convinced that they’re going to be betrayed, hurt or disappointed. That’s because they don’t think that they’re worth enough for people to want to stick around.
HAVING A NEGATIVE VIEW OF THE WORLD
There are a lot of bad things in the world. One only has to turn on the television to see ample proof of it. However, there is good as well. Someone with low self esteem only sees the negatives: bad things happen to them; bad people are drawn to them. There isn’t much room for positivism in that.
BEING OVERLY SKEPTICAL
While no one should strive to be thought of gullible, overt skepticism can be a sign of low self-esteem, especially if it is directed towards positive things. What you’re really saying is you don’t believe that good things can happen because they haven’t happened to you.
A lack of self esteem leads to negative feelings about one’s own life, which in turn leads to a feeling of hopelessness and depression. If you feel this way for more than a few days at a time, there may be a bigger issue.
If you see any of these things in yourself, don’t be too concerned. It just means that you’re like millions of others out there. Now it’s time to start loving yourself. Forget what you believe others think of you. Remember Jean De La Bruyere once said: “A person’s worth in this world is estimated according to the value they put on themselves”.
