Too Many Books… Not Enough Time
Do you have any of these problems with your reading list?
1. You have too many books to read and not enough time?
2. You have been recommended stacks of good books and literally don’t know which one to read first?
3. You feel overwhelmed with books?
Have you found that even though this is one of your most pleasurable hobbies that really you would like to either shorten your reading list, or just shortcut to the most relevant book to help move your life to the right place? Or would just like to reduce the whole ‘book overwhelm’ problem?
Do you currently have a plan for solving the problem?
Or are you just going to bump into book after book, bimbling and bouncing around your ever expanding reading list… Reading the latest release that a friend has recommended… Not really ever knowing if your reading is effective or ineffective?
Just How Many Books Do You Read A Year?
If you’re a regular book reader, and I am guessing as you’re reading this that you probably are, the chances are that in the last 3 years alone you have read at least 60 books…
Now that’s a lot of books!
If they were all on one subject then you would be at the very top of your field in your chosen subject, in fact you may even be THE world’s expert in the subject.
But most people read for enjoyment and to vary their subjects to get a great spectrum of new information. Now this is your hobby after all so it’s fair and reasonable to do it this way. But don’t you think that your hobby should also be moving your life forward… right? Otherwise why on earth would you read book after book on personal development?
So given that you are reading them to a) learn, b) relax and c) move your life forward… Then let me ask you these questions…
First though think back to where you were 3 years ago, your job, your house, your life in general…
- Has your reading list moved your life on at all in the last 3 years?
- Is your net worth greater or less than it was 3 years ago?
- Did you even actually go forward each year or backwards?
- Or has it just given you the illusion of moving you forward?
- Sure you learn stuff, but do you implement anything to actually IMPROVE your life?
- Does your reading actually take you where you want to go?
You see, most people bounce around with their reading and feel they are learning, feel that their life is moving forward. But when they stop and take account of their lack of any real progress, they are forced to notice that all their reading is actually getting them NOWHERE.
Now the controller of our mind doesn’t want us to know this as it is their secret. Because if we realise it then the chances are we will do something about it, as it becomes illogical for us to continue doing it wrong.
So if you have the conflict below going on inside your mind right now then you may want to pay attention to the rest of this and watch the video at the end…
“No, my life is moving on… It must be as I’ve learnt so much! – Hang on a minute though, when I actually look at my results for the last 3 years and at the countless books I’ve read. It is actually obvious that I am not moving forward despite all this knowledge I’ve gained. I don’t understand? How can I be learning and feeling so good but my life is not moving forward? What’s going on? I’m missing something!”
You see, your ego lets you read the books as it knows that if it lets you fill your mind up with learning new stuff then you will FEEL like you are getting somewhere… However, you are not, you merely have the ‘illusion of progress.’ And it is a very cunning illusion!
Or do you have this problem…
You read a great book and decide, “That’s it, I am going to implement what I’ve learnt here!” Only to find you’ve been distracted by another book and then 6 months later you are still beating yourself up for not implementing anything you learnt from the book.
Has that ever happened to you?
This again is one of the egos tricks to keep you stuck where you are and just treading water. Your ego is feeding you a diet of knowledge and wisdom safe in the knowledge that it knows you will be confused with so much information that you will not move forward… But that you will feel that you are moving forward…
Now can you see how your ego is very cunning?
Basically have you ever considered this all important question…. Is your reading actually productive or just active?
Listen to the voice inside your head now…
Is it saying, ‘No my reading is productive!’
Or is it silent?
If it is silent then you have a chance of fixing it as you’ve got the little bu**er scared. And right now it doesn’t know what to do.
You see, virtually all people are in the habit of just reading without direction as they think the answer may be hidden in the next book, or maybe the one after that, or maybe the one that has yet to be written. That is what the voice in your head has you believing…
But here’s the secret that your ego does not want you to know… The answer you seek you ‘currently’ will not find in the books. However, it is written in virtually all of them but unfortunately your ego has camouflaged it for you. So even if I was to tell you what it was right now, the camouflage is so good that it can be and has been hidden in plain sight and you still don’t see it.
So how would you like to 1) Learn how to see through the camouflage and, 2) Shorten your reading list so that you KNOW FOR CERTAIN which books you must read and in which order?
In fact how would you like to shortcut the situation so that you only read the single most important book right now no matter what area you wish to move your life forward on? And how would you like to know for certain which book you must read right now to move your life out of ‘tread water’ mode and into actually ‘start swimming’ mode?
What would you give to be able to shortcut your reading list today and only ever read the most important ‘productive’ books? And what would you give to be able to figure out which of the books on your current reading list that you should read right now?
And moving forward how would you like to know how to avoid reading books that are just not useful to getting you where you want to go?
What If Every Book You Read Was The Next Book You Needed To Read?
Let’s say you are reading 20 books a year, the chances are if you could do this more efficiently then you would still read 20 books a year but they would be the 20 books that were the most effective at getting you where you wanted to go.
You would stop bimbling and bouncing through your reading list and just be able to target in on exactly the right books to get you where you want to go far faster.
Just imagine this…
You are standing on an island and you want to go to another island. All around you are stepping stones, and each stepping stone is a book. The way you are currently doing it, is you are randomly jumping onto different books with no specific direction. Sometimes going forward, sometimes going backwards and most often going sideways.
But when you know how to be effective in your reading, when you have figured out what it is that you want, then instead of treading on countless random stepping stones because you don’t know which ones are right… Now instead you can just choose to step on just the few stepping stones required to get you from island to island in the shortest possible time.
So how do you define which ones to read right?
Well it all comes down to the one stepping stone at the beginning. Stepping on the very first correct stepping stone is paramount as this leads you to the next one and the next one. The first one is the very first book you must read to suit where your life is right now and then if you can identify that… then you can identify the next one and the next… This is simple when you know what you want.
And what’s more you’ll never not know what to do again, your list of 20 books a year will take you to some amazing places… When you start to do this in the correct way! And after that all the books you read will move your life forward, you will no longer tread water or appear to be stuck. In fact you’ll be staggered at the speed with which your life moves forward…
So are you ready to figure out which one of the books on your reading list is the one that should be first, as it sorts all of the others out and saves your hundreds if not thousands of hours of wasted reading?
If so then you must watch this really short video which explains how to identify what book to read first.
Do you get it now?
The voice in your head is working against you because that way it keeps you stuck in life.
